Oscar's Classic Diner

This little find was strictly by accident.  The Ample Traveler^© was heading towards another restaurant for Sunday dinner, only to discover that it was closed.  But nearby, a joint was jumpin'.

Oscar's Classic Diner at 2118 Schotthill Woods Drive (just off Hwy 50/63, south of Jefferson City at the Eastland exit) turned out to be a wonderful off-the-beaten-path place.  Smoke free with a universally accessible entrance, the nostalgic diner has the feel of a great museum as much as it does a restaurant.  Carefully chosen by Lisa and carefully hung by Kurt, the walls are full of posters, plaques, ads and magazine one-pagers documenting pop culture from the 1950s, 60s and 70s. 

The food is moderately priced.  Traditional diner fare is mixed with more up to date bistro to satisfy both nostalgia and appetite. 

A mixture of stools, booths and tables make it possible for different configurations that can accommodate diversity.  The restrooms have accessible stalls, though plants along the hallway might obstruct wheelchair access , The Ample Traveler^©  did, however, observe several wheelchair users negotiating the space quite nicely.

The staff is extremely friendly.  The Ample Traveler^© believes that if you looked up "Midwestern hospitality" in the dictionary, you might find a picture of Oscar's Classic Diner.
