Mid-Missouri Mavericks

Taylor Stadium--UMC
Frontier Baseball League
Columbia, MO

A cool summer night in Mid-Missouri watching the game. Summertime in the Midwest means baseball.  The crack of the bat and the cheer of the crowd under the lights in a fading dusk sky is the essence of summer for many a fan.  If you watch television all the time and never leave the house, you might believe that baseball is only played in a select few major league stadiums across the country or only by kids at the local little league.  But the avid fan knows that semi-professional minor league baseball can be found in small cities sporting some pretty nice stadiums.

The Mid-Missouri Mavericks in Colombia share their stadium with the University of Missouri's college team.  Taylor Stadium is a modern facility with a lot to offer those of us who don't always fit into stadium seating.  The Ample Traveler© found much to recommend it.

Taylor Stadium, second level ramp to wheelchair seating. First, The Ample Traveler© loved the elevator.  Few small stadiums make it possible for those of us using wheelchairs, walkers, or canes, or just need to take it easy on the stairs to get up into the stands.  The elevator can bring those who need to avoid stairs altogether into the second level where ample room is available for wheelchair seating and to the third level where only a few stairs stand between a good seat behind home plate.

The Ample Traveler© was also happy with the variety of seating available.  Not only were spaces available for wheelchairs, but benches were behind home plate as well as in general seating.  The difference in price between the variety of seats were minimal.  The Ample Traveler© enjoy the third level back row for some back support as well as a good look at home plate.

Taylor Stadium's entrance ramp offers greenery with accessibility. Entering the stadium was possible for everyone, though the ramp was a bit long for those of us using walkers.  The Ample Traveler© prefers universal entrances, but was pleased with the care and beauty the ramp possessed at Taylor Stadium.  If there has to be a "separate, but equal entrance," certainly one lined with greenery is more enjoyable and the railing and hand guards made for a safe ramp.

All levels of the stadium had accessible bathrooms which also made for a comfortable experience, especially during a double-header.

All in all, The Ample Traveler© felt that Taylor Stadium made room for everyone, or at least everyone who enjoys a nice summer's evening of baseball.
